The BelCCI has been appointed national coordinator of the The Eastern Partnership Trade Helpdesk project. The initiative aims to increase economic ties between the European Union and the Eastern Partnership countries. The project will help Belarusian companies to get access to regional trade information, identify and monitor trade obstacles and build market analysis skills.
In June 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva supported the appointment of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry the national coordinator of The Eastern Partnership Trade Helpdesk project. The project fully corresponds to the activities carried out by the BelCCI in the field of supporting domestic enterprises in export enhancement and diversification, promoting Belarusian products to export markets, providing marketing support and information on potential partners and possible export niches in the European Union and Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries.
The Eastern Partnership Trade Helpdesk, a new EU4Business project implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, was launched in late 2019. The 5-year-long initiative aims to increase economic ties between the EU and the EaP countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine). The project will provide trade information on the region and the EU via an online portal; identify regulatory and procedural trade obstacles through company surveys; facilitate the reporting, monitoring and resolution of obstacles via an online reporting system; build national capacity to collect and process trade in services data for selected sectors; train companies and business support organizations in the use of selected market analysis tools to enable them to identify new opportunities within the EaP region and in the EU.
The EaP Trade Information Portal, created as part of the project, will complement data available from national web sites, and include:
The portal will be developed in English with the first level of the interface available in Russian and in each national language. ITC will collaborate with the relevant government agencies in each country, national coordinators, to collect the latest trade data and information on tariffs and non-tariff measures, enabling the continuous update of information on the online portal.
Besides trade flows, the project will be focused on services. To strengthen the provision of trade in services data, the project will build the capacity of relevant institutions – state authorities and statistics services – in each country to collect and process services data for selected sectors. The work will be underway during the whole period of the project implementation and will involve the international experts of the WTO and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
At the project completing stage, an extensive training program will be provided for companies, business support organizations and government entities in order to strengthen their ability to identify export opportunities and prepare market reports based on the information available through the portal.
